The Nuclear AMRC works with companies along the UK’s nuclear supply chain to help them compete by raising quality and productivity, reducing costs, and developing new capabilities.
Our flagship Fit For Nuclear programme is a unique service to help UK manufacturers get ready to bid for work in civil nuclear, allowing companies to measure their operations against industry standards and take the necessary steps to close any gaps. We are now rolling out supply chain development programmes based on the Fit For model in other low-carbon sectors including offshore renewables, carbon capture, and hydrogen production.
Most of the companies working through our supplier development programmes are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). By helping smaller manufacturers understand what the market expects from them, what they may be capable of supplying, and where they sit in the nuclear supply chain, we demystify the nuclear sector and remove barriers to entry.
Companies participating in our supply chain development programmes have reported that our support has helped them win £2.6 billion of new contracts, create or safeguard more than 10,400 jobs, and secure £120 million additional investment.
As well as our core supply chain development programmes, we offer tailored consultancy services including supply chain readiness level studies to build links and share knowledge between suppliers and top-tier customers, and help overseas developers develop their UK supply chains.
We are also working to tackle skills gaps across the nuclear sector. We collaborated with Rolls-Royce and other partners to launch the new Nuclear Skills Academy in Derby, and are now working to extend this model to other parts of the sector. We work with the National Skills Academy Nuclear to provide a one-stop shop for manufacturers along the nuclear supply chain, and the AMRC Training Centre to provide practical skills from apprenticeships through to doctorate and MBA level.
We continue to work with our partners to develop our supply chain development services to meet evolving industry needs.
Introducing F4N
Fit For Nuclear (F4N) is a unique service to help manufacturing companies assess and develop their readiness to bid for work in the nuclear supply chain. Developed with the support of the industry’s top tier, F4N lets companies measure their operations against the standards required to supply the nuclear industry, and take the necessary steps to close any gaps.
Developed and delivered exclusively by the Nuclear AMRC, the F4N programme is supported by top-tier partners in new build and decommissioning. These industry leaders are using F4N to identify potential companies for their own supply chains.
More than 1000 companies have now completed the online F4N assessment, with most receiving ongoing support and development from the Nuclear AMRC team. Around 100 companies are now granted F4N after driving business improvements through a tailored action plan – see our directory of F4N companies for details, or visit the fully-searchable F4N Connect portal to find suppliers for your specific needs.
